Former Pro-Life Advocate Stacey Abrams Amends Abortion Stance: Huge Win for Georgia Women!
Stacey Abrams (former pro-life supporter from a religious home) announced she is for abortion ‘until the time of birth’ in some circumstances while starring as a guest on ‘The View” Wednesday, September 14th.
Alyssa Farah Griffin (a new conservative host on ‘The View’) asked Abrams if there should be abortion restrictions. She replied, ‘Viability is the metric and that if a woman’s health or life is endanger then viability extends until the time of birth.’
Abortion is a 'medical decision not a political one'
Abrams continued, saying abortion is a ‘medical decision not a political one’ and termed several state-sanctioned restrictions on the procedure ‘arbitrary.’
Abrams did not define a woman’s health or how to implement restrictions on abortion.
Abrams Sees The Light After 2018 Loss
Abrams did not believe in abortion while attending college and law school and disapproved of a friend’s thought of having one. A New York Times profile suggests her perspective changed while analyzing her 2018 loss.
College Changed Abrams Heart to Support Stopping Baby Hearts
Abrams explained on CNN’s State of the Union (August) that she started to rethink her religious childhood and pro-life stance in college.
‘I was anti-abortion until I went to college. And, there, I met a friend who has my shared faith values, but we started having conversations about what reproductive care and abortion care really is,’ Abrams indicated.
Abrams defended her present stance, ‘This is about a woman’s right to control her body. This is about a woman’s right to experience and determine her future. And that, for me, as a matter of faith, means that I don’t impose those value systems on others.’
Abrams' Reversal of Georgia's Existing Abortion Sanction
If elected, Abrams said she would focus on reversing Georgia’s existing abortion sanction, which prohibits abortions after six weeks.
Abrams has noted, ‘What I understand is that the majority of Georgians do not like this law. It is an extreme ban. It is dangerous, and it affects women across the spectrum.’
